New Boat For Disabled Sailors On Show At The Regatta
The SV14 is a new boat designed especially for sailors with disabilities and is a truly unique project. Initiated by Thailand-based Marine Surveyor Peter Jacops with a desire to make sailing more affordable and accessible for people with disabilities, the SV14 has become a global collaboration with multi award-winning Naval Architectural and Yacht Design studio Simonis Voogd Design designing the boat and respected disabled sailor Russell Vollmer providing valuable oversight.
To ensure the SV14 is affordable, the plans are available free of charge to anyone who wishes to build a boat for a person with disability, and the design is such that the boat can be self-built.
Driven by Disabled Sailing Thailand, the goal to build a fleet in Thailand has been supported from the beginning by Ocean Marina Yacht Club and Top of the Gulf Regatta, with support from others in providing equipment and assistance in the build.
With two SV14's currently built in Thailand – one by Disabled Sailing Thailand and one by AusThai Marine – the regatta will be hosting a demonstration of the SV14 on Saturday 28th April.
All are welcome to see the SV14 on display at Ocean Marina Yacht Club and join with Ocean Marina Yacht Club and Top of the Gulf Regatta in supporting this worthy initiative to make sailing more accessible to all.
