With the aim to increase regatta co-operation throughout the region, key Top of the Gulf Regatta personnel attended the recent Subic Bay to Boracay Race and Boracay Cup Regatta.

Invited by organisers, of the Subic Bay to Boracay Race and Boracay Cup Regatta, it proved a good opportunity for Thailand and Philippine regatta organisers to share ideas, develop stronger links and promote the fantastic sailing available in both destinations.

“We'd like to see all regattas in the region working together more. Promoting the region together as a co-operative effort will help raise awareness of the spectacular sailing that is available throughout Asia,” commented Mr. William Gasson, Co-Chairman of the Top of the Gulf Regatta Organising Committee.

Top of the Gulf Regatta organisers met with local sailors and visiting international sailors, as well as the President of the Philippine Sailing Association during their visit.

“There are some clear similarities with the Philippines and Thailand – both destinations have excellent sailing conditions year round and both offer warm weather sailing year round, something that appeals to sailors from cooler climates and we hope together we can further this message to sailors around the world and increase their awareness of Asian sailing,” said Gasson.

In the Top of the Gulf Regatta's drive to expand its footprint and awareness of the event in China, organisers met with executives from the China Cup International Regatta, including David Zhong, CEO.

“It was a pleasure to meet with the China Cup team and interesting to see that the China Cup has a very similar philosophy to the Top of the Gulf Regatta in terms of being as inclusive as possible, welcoming everyone from Optimist and dinghy sailors, to one-design and keelboats. We look forward to working together with the China Cup team in the future,” added Gasson.
